A Message from Jackie:
In a million years, I wouldn't have thought I would be nearly 50 years old writing a blog about starting a business, but yet......here I am, and here I go! As a young girl my dreams were of dancing and acting on Broadway. I never dreamt of being a healer/nurse practitioner/medicine...or did I?
Maybe I didn’t check the Doctor/Nurse box to answer the question, “What would like to be when you grow up?” But looking back, I've always been curious. I was the kid who always asked, "Why?” and "How?" I was also the kid who loved to take things apart, use things in new ways and question why it was used for a certain purpose. I was a big tomboy and found dissecting bugs fascinating; “icky” stuff didn’t bother me at all.
I also had empathy for the poor kid who was never picked for games or the one who had no one to sit with at lunch and I could ‘sense’ when someone’s energy was off. I believe that those two things can take you anywhere you want to go in life! I also believe each and everyone one of us has the ability to tap into our curious intuition.
A dream I’ve had for the last 5-6 years will come true in just days. As we are about to open the doors of Thrive Health and Wellness Clinic, I reflect on our mission, and how we wish to portray it to our patients, to the public to properly frame our expectations of all we can achieve, as well as those of our patients. I found myself once again drawn back to the topic of curious intuition, as it is embodied in both our mission and our expectations.
Our mission is to be curious about your health and to have empathy for you as we travel these uncharted waters together.
Functional medicine is a discipline defined by curiosity, in that the clinician and patient work together to unravel the underlying causes for of disease and dysfunctions. We look at how your body/mind/spirit is reacting to your current lifestyle, which includes environment, diet, toxin exposure, nutrient deficiencies, genetics, activity, community and work environments, mental health and sense of well-being. Functional medicine has its basis in empathy; as practitioners, we listen with a goal of empowering you to live your best life. No one knows what is best for you, except you. We honor that knowledge.
Our expectation is that bring your authentic self to the table and trust that we will support you. We expect that you will commit to doing the work it takes to make that happen. We also expect that there will be setbacks and that you acknowledge this with the understanding that we are not here to judge, only support and lead with empathy.
So, I am blessed to begin this journey, with you. Together, we will THRIVE!
